February Author of the Month — Duncan Tonatiuh
Duncan Tonatiuh is a renowned children's author and illustrator celebrated for his vibrant storytelling and art that reflects Mexican and Mexican-American culture. His awards include the Pura Belpré Medal, the Robert F. Sibert Medal, and The New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Books Award. Born in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, Duncan’s style is inspired by Mesoamerican art. His career began at Parsons School of Design, where he developed his unique illustrations. Through his work, Duncan aims to provide representation for Latino children and promote understanding of their culture, with notable titles like Pancho Rabbit and Separate Is Never Equal, which have received various honors.
