J.S. Jen started writing with his daughter, Penny B. Jen, when she was 5-years-old to teach her good social skills and manners. They incorporated her two favorite things: princesses and unicorns.

April Author of the Month — Sandra Boynton

Sandra Boynton is a renowned figure in American children's literature and music, leaving a legacy of joy and imagination, making her beloved across generations. Raised in a Quaker family in Philadelphia, the author/illustrator/producer/lyricist credits her peaceful, inclusive upbringing at Germantown Friends School—and her English teacher father—for shaping her voice and values.

Boynton began her career in the 1970s with witty greeting cards, notably her birthday card, "Hippo Birdie Two Ewes," selling over 10 million copies. Transitioning to children's literature, she has authored nearly 100 titles, including Moo, Baa, La La La!, Barnyard Dance!, and Pajama Time! with sales exceeding 90 million copies worldwide. As a parent, you've likely enjoyed sharing one of Boynton's delightful stories with your little ones. Her whimsical animal characters promote inclusivity and relatability while sparking joy and imagination in her readers. Boynton also ventured into music, collaborating with Michael Ford on acclaimed albums featuring well-known artists from various genres, demonstrating that her talents extend beyond print media.
