February Author of the Month — Vashti Harrison
Vashti Harrison is a prominent author and illustrator known for her impactful work in children's literature. Her Leaders & Dreamers series, including Bold Women in Black History, became bestsellers, and she illustrated acclaimed books like Sulwe and Hair Love. In 2024, she became the first Black woman to win the Caldecott Medal for her book, Big, which promotes self-acceptance and self-love. Harrison's work emphasizes diversity, inclusion, and empathy, inspiring children to see themselves in history. Based in Brooklyn, New York, the author/illustrator/filmmaker continues to create stories that educate and empower our youth.
